[School Name] - Students for the Exploration and Development of Space

Sample Constitution

Section 1. Name

The name of the chapter shall be "[School Name] - Students for the Exploration and Development of Space", hereafter [School Name] SEDS.

Section 2. Purpose

The purposes of [School Name] SEDS are:

1. to educate students and the general public about the benefits of space exploration and development,
2. to provide a forum for the discussion and exchange of ideas in space-related areas of interest, and
3. to assist and advise students on opportunities in space related careers and further education.

Section 3. Membership

[School Name] SEDS shall be composed of students of [School Name], who will be voting members, and individual non-voting associate members. SEDS will be open to membership by any member of [School Name] student community.

Section 4. Executive Committee

Voting chapter members will elect an executive committee (composed of a presiding officer and, at least, two other chapter officers) at an annual meeting held in January. These officers will take office at the beginning of March. (There will be at least two meetings each year.) Other officers may be appointed by the executive committee.

Section 5. Amendments

Constitutional amendments will be made when such amendments are supported by two-thirds of the organization's voting membership.

Section 6. Sources of Funds

[School Name] SEDS will be funded from the following sources:

1. Chapter dues, donations, and school funding (if any)
2. Income from group fundraising activities.

Section 7. Disbursment of Funds

A petty cash fund will be kept to be dispensed by an elected treasurer. When a financial report is required, it will be provided by the treasurer.

Section 8. Financial Records

The treasurer will be required to keep an accurate record of all income and expenditures. Receipts will be issued of all sources of income. Any bank accounts and transactions will require the signature of, at least, two current officers of the chapter.
