TGI Friday’s
Reviewed 12/2/97
TGI Friday’s is an example of what I like to call a "Fern Bar". Essentially, a fern bar has the equivalent of a yard sale hanging on its walls, some zany theme or montage that it tries to adhere to, and, of course, a lot of plants.
Artistically speaking, TGI Friday’s Huntsville store features a giant chicken, a sign in the mens room which reads "Beware Of The Trains", a telephone in the ladies room, and outfits that make the waiters and waitresses look like referees from Hell.
Don’t get me wrong – I like this place. In fact, its where I took Heather for our very first date. It has a comfy, relaxed atmosphere, and an extensive menu.
Lets talk about the menu. All the fern bar standards are there… club sandwich, a variety of salads, crazy hamburger combinations, a few pasta dishes, and the ubiquitous chicken fingers. Out of the ordinary items include Kabobs, which I recommend, and a "Mexican-kind-of-Italian-thing" they call a Pizzadilla - essentially pizza stuffed in pita bread – which I don’t.
Over all, this is an perfectly average restaurant. I didn’t care for the blackened chicken (carbon has never been my favorite seasoning), but the steak kabobs were good, and getting to choose hamburger ingredients was nice. Prices are standard for this sort of fare – two eat for around 20 bucks. If you’re looking for something different, go elsewhere. But if you’re tired of going to the same old place, try TGI Fridays for all the same food in the same atmosphere with different people.
