Minutes of SSP TM meeting on 20 November 1998 Place: ECE 202 Meeting began at 15:10 Present: E. Fasse, U. Fink, K. C. Hsieh, C. Lewicki, L. Schooley, H. Tharp, and W. Wing Absent: J. D. Carothers, W. Chen, and K. Thome This meeting did not follow the proposed agenda. Instead, a good exchange of ideas and information took place, prior to some of the proposed agenda items. 1. Schooley: The International Foundation for Telemetering (IFT) is interested in SSP, but requires submission of student papers. IFT info on student papers was handed out and a CD of examples given to Lewicki. Monetary prizes for the best student papers are established and funds for student travel to the meetings are available. 2. Wing: Only 4 students showed up for the tour of the instrument Shop - 2 from STI and 2 from SCI. Fink: The students working on Stellar Photometry are about ready to submit drawings for the proto-type. Wing: It is now time to contact the volunteer machinist, Clint. 3. Wing: The STI team will make an effort to recruit new members. Hsieh: There are other teams that need recruiting also. A general drive will take place in January. 4. Hsieh: Please make use of the mock-up of UASat for your team. 5. Fink and Fasse exchanged ideas on pointing accuracy and the need for star tracker. Fink will provide Fasse the list of candidate stars for photometry experiment. Fink also told the satellite-tracking capability of the 60" telescope on Mt. Lemmon that might be useful for UASat. Wing brought up the value to GNC of having a laser beacon shining up from the ground station, and he said STI (now LCS) would endeavor to produce one. 6. The past minutes were approved. 7. Lewicki reported on the present status of UASat design and handed out blockdiagrams from each of the teams. These sub-system blocks are ready to be put together to form the entire UASat system. The teams are also working on operational time-line. The estimation of the duration of each operation will follow. Fink and Wing expressed concern over the lack of a geometrically accurate diagram of the optics. Lewicki will convey the concern to SCI. Up-coming publicity for SSP will include a photo of the mock-up by the Arizona Daily Star and the display of the SSP poster in the Science & Engineering Library. Concerning the lack of response to the AO for the Project Manager, Lewicki will check if the AO has been sent to the Business College. Hsieh will contact Goodman on this matter. 8. Hsieh gave a short report on the status of the proposals. The reinforced proposal to NASA will have to wait, since the lightning section will not be done a month from now, according to Dan O'Sullivan. A copy of the NSF proposal was handed out to each TM. The meeting was adjured at 16:55. Addendum: Lewicki forgot to inform the TMs that this semester's "Semester Review" will be positioned to a "Semester Update" January. It will be a general assembly of all teams and open to new students.
