From hsieh@space.physics.Arizona.EDU Sat Jan 16 15:23:25 1999 -0700 Minutes of the Team Mentors' Meeting on 15 January 1999 Place: ECE 410C Meeting started at shortly after 3:00 PM Present: Fasse, Hsieh, Lewicki, and Schooley Absent: Carothers, Chen, Fink, Tharp, Thome, and Wing Due to the lack of a quorum, no decisions were made at this meeting. Those present did discuss the following topics: 1. The general meeting on 26 January 1999 Members of ESP and MAP will be reminded of this meeting. The TMs are urged to attend. This is the only occasion when the entire project will be summarized and new and potential participants will be introduced to the project. 2. Setting goals for the semester The teams are beginning to converge towards the PDR, but to actually reach that point will need considerable effort on the part of the TMs. The absence of the launch manifest seems to delay the efforts to move forward. This is indeed a student project, but some prodding and guidance from the TMs will be necessary. This needs an in depth discussion involving all TMs. 3. NASA proposal: The resubmission of a proposal seeking a launch manifest awaits the submission of the beefed-up sections on the scientific objectives and approach. This effort involves the Science Team as well as the STI Team. Phil Krider of Atmospherics stands ready to assist in the lightly and sprites section. It is crucial that the interest on the part of NASA will not decrease as our re submission is further delayed. 4. NSF proposal: The proposal has been received and waiting to be reviewed. John Reagan did hand over Smerdon the materials Larry Schooley gave him. 5. Search for the new Project Manager: So far there are three applicants. The entire process has been postponed since last December. The deadline for application is now 1 February and the interview starts on February. The final selection is set for 8 February. The urgency of the process is generated by the fact that Chris has to get on with his graduate studies. Since the decision rests on the TMs and the current PM, please set aside time between 1 and 8 February so the selection will go smoothly. 6. "SSP TO DO, v.1.1" from Ch. Lewicki: L. Schooley emphasized the items under "By End of Semester" and reported on the status of the design course on telemetering. The student efforts in that course may generate the design for DCH and TTB. Lewicki will forward the list to all TMs and urge input from all. Meeting adjourned shortly after 4 PM.
