Date: Sun, 31 Jan 1999 23:24:40 -0700 (MST) From: John Hsieh To: ssp-mentors@space.physics.Arizona.EDU cc: Chris Lewicki Subject: draft of minutes Minutes of the Team Mentors' Meeting on 28 January 1999 Place: ECE 202 Meeting started shortly after 3:00 PM Present: Chen, Hsieh, Lewicki, Schooley, Tharp, Thome, and Wing Absent: Carothers, Fasse, and Fink The meeting did not have a pre-set agenda, but was an open discussion covering the following topics: 1. Review & Orientation held on 26.i.1999. 2. Resubmission of NASA proposal. 3. SSP Newsletter 4. Goals for the semester 5. New proposals. Following action items were condisered and should be executed: 1. Monitored skill training: a. All SSP students should go through the library-run infromation search and filing session. (This activity is funded by a grant from the Provost's Office.) b. MAS and members of other teams interested in machining, e.g. LCE, should go through basic training. (Dr. Bickel of Physics has offered such training.) Lewicki will, with the help from the TLs, implement both actions. 2. Funding from Provost's Office: Hsieh will contact Provost's Office for two items. a. Likelihood of support for returning with another porposal ($13K awarded last year). If no objection, Tharp will lead an effort to propose for hardware -- equipment and parts. b. Ask for financial support as other administrative offices have done. 3. Summer internship: It is desirable that if industry can support SSP students to work on UASat during the summer, modelled after Dr. Henry Hill's approach, i.e. 1/2 time for his firms and 1/2 time on own project, SSP in this case. a. Tharp will contact Raytheon. b. Hsieh will contact Breault and Allied Signal. c. Fasse should contact Honeywell. d. Wing will contact Dr. Hill. 4. Alumnus input to Newsletter: Wing will ask Chris Gee to write an article for the Newsletter. Deadline: 8 February. 5. Display: Reduced versions of the poster to be hung in the library will be distributed to all participating departments for local display. 6. Science Team: Lewicki will work the Team and Thome on techical status of the objectives and the instrument. Rationale for any changes and consequences must be examined and published. (May involve ESP to be complete.) 7. Systems level mentoring: Tharp and Hsieh will visit each team to provide overview of the UASat system. 8. Onboard CPU and OS issue: Wing will contact Carothers and Schooley on this matter. Announcement from Hsieh: All TMs and Lewicki must make time available for interviewing the candidates for the PM popsition. As soon as the application deadline is passed, Hsieh and Lewicki will assemble all application materials and pass on to all TMs. All interviews are to be done by Friday, 5 February.
