Update -- July 23 6:30pm EDT (2230 UT): Contact with Pathfinder was restored earlier this week after problems this weekend with NASA's Deep Space Network and a software glitch in the spacecraft itself kept scientists from receiving data from the lander and rover. The rover is now headed to a whitish rock named "Lamb", followed by "Souffle" and "Cradle". Mission scientists also released another high-resolution panoramic view of the landing site. Update -- July 19 4:15pm EDT (2015 UT): Efforts to return data on the composition of the rock "Scooby-Doo" failed when the rover was apparently mispositioned by ground controllers. Controllers had moved the rover to brush dust off the rock but apparently did not get the rover back into position. Crews will try again tonight to get compositional data on the rock. Update -- July 18 3:45pm EDT (1945 UT): Pathfinder and Sojourner are working fine and are continuing to return data about the surface and atmosphere of Mars. Sojourner is currently studying Scooby-Doo, a nearvy rock that is almost white in color. The earlier problems with resets in Pathfinder's computer has apparently been identified as a minor bug where the computer did not allow enough time for a process to complete; the bug will be corrected in the next day or so.
